The Farmington Valley VNA’s Granby Food Bank Program is the grateful recipient of the recent generosity of Geissler’s Supermarket and the Archdiocese of Hartford.
On Sept. 26, Geissler’s Supermarket in Granby hosted a food drive to benefit the Granby Food Bank Program and the East Granby Food Pantry. Along with Geissler’s store staff, volunteers from each Food Bank encouraged patrons to “fill the truck” that was parked in front of the store with non-perishable food products to directly benefit participants at each food bank program.
The Archdiocese of Hartford’s Vicariate Outreach Program seeks to support local organizations whose charitable missions offer assistance to people in need, and the Granby Food Bank Program was fortunate to be recommended as a charitable program that should be supported by the 2015 Archbishop’s Annual Appeal. The Archdiocese’ very generous $1,000 funding award will be used to supplement the food and monetary donations received from the community.
The volunteer-run Granby Food Bank Program, located at 248 Salmon Brook Street in the Farmington Valley VNA’s Granby office, benefits Granby and Hartland residents whose present circumstances require aid with access to essential nutrition. With the holiday season approaching, an increase in requests for assistance is expected and the timely generosity of Geissler’s Supermarket and the Archdiocese of Hartford will ensure that the Granby Food Bank Program’s shelves remain full during this period of increased demand.
