Granby Land Trust and Granby Artists Association Host tenth annual Paint Out and Juried Art Show
By Trish Percival
On Oct. 29, the Granby Land Trust and the Granby Artists Association will officially open their tenth annual juried art show, featuring artworks that highlight New England’s natural beauty. “We live in a beautiful corner of the world,” says Land Trust President Rick Orluk. “Ten years ago, we had the idea to celebrate the beauty that surrounds us by inviting artists to capture it for a themed art show. The show has been so successful that here we are today, holding our tenth annual show.”
Leading into this show artists and the general public are invited to the BIG PAINT, a plein air painting event on Oct. 4, beginning at 10 a.m. This year’s BIG PAINT will showcase the beauty of the Broad Hill Road Corridor, a stretch of preserved properties on Broad Hill Road in West Granby. All are invited to meet at the home of Put and Nannie Brown, 16 Broad Hill Road, West Granby, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., and from there take a walking tour of the properties and converse with the artists as they capture the natural beauty of the area. A complimentary continental breakfast will be available for artists and attendees.
Then, on October 29, from 5 to 8 p.m., all are invited to Lost Acres Vineyard (located at 80 Lost Acres Road in North Granby) for the art show’s opening night reception. “Opening night is a really fun night out in Granby,” says Orluk. “It’s a chance for us to celebrate great art, renew our appreciation of the incredible beauty in nature and just have fun talking to friends and neighbors.” The event also is catered and attendees are offered a glass of wine compliments of Lost Acres Vineyard.
Finally, the Art Show itself will run for an entire month, from Oct. 29 through Nov. 29 (during Vineyard hours: Friday and Saturday, 12-6 p.m. and Sunday 12-5 p.m. All are invited to come and see the art on their own schedule during this time period. The art is offered for sale, with a portion of proceeds benefitting the Granby Land Trust.
The Granby Land Trust thanks Lost Acres Vineyard for their generous support and for hosting this art show. To learn more about the Granby Land Trust and its upcoming events, visit www.GranbyLandTrust.org or become a friend of the GLT on Facebook.
