Looking for a way to usher in a cool autumn weekend? Join your friends and revel in the sounds of Brooks Williams, as he kicks off the 2015-2016 Salmon Brook Music Series at South Congregational Church.  The family-friendly and totally accessible venue is at 242 Salmon Brook Street in Granby.
Brooks Williams, a well-known and popular artist in the acoustic roots genre, is a welcome and anticipated performer at South Church. Brooks is no stranger to this area, and his devotees look forward to his performances.
Brooks was nominated in 2014 by Spiral Earth, the online news channel and website, for “best male vocal.” The magical combination of his guitar and voice, performing songs that cross the lines between blues and Americana, are an audio treat.
Ranked one of America’s top 100 acoustic guitarists, Brooks has been weaving musical magic with his silky smooth and intoxicating voice for more than 25 years. The Granby audience will be treated to the international flavor that Brooks brings, having performed in exotic locales like London, Nairobi, Belfast and Istanbul.
As the Salmon Brook Music Series continues its efforts to encourage and nurture aspiring young talent, it presents Joe Bourque and his cousin Tom Gunderson as the opening act.
Joe, a freshman at Westfield State College, has not declared a major yet, but is considering a career in music. Playing violin since age 5, then guitar, mandolin, banjo, harmonica and the fiddle, Joe’s music has been influenced by legends like Doc Watson, Chris Thile and the Old Crow Medicine Show. Tom works in the solar panel industry, but he has been playing and singing with Joe for years beginning in their church and building an appreciative audience in the area. Please come and support these two fine young musicians.
The Salmon Brook Music Series is a fundraiser supporting the mission and goals of South Congregational Church. The concert will be held on Friday, October 16, at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. at this family-friendly venue. Refreshments will be available for purchase. Tickets at the door are $17 but advance purchase price is $15 available by calling Arlene at 860-916-5066. Please see the South Church website for more information at www.southchurchgranby.org. Information is also available on Brooks’ website at www.brookswilliams.com.
