Granby Police Department Gets A New Officer

Granby Officer Jeffrey Murphy graduated from the police academy on Dec. 18. Officer Murphy was part of the Connecticut Police Officer Standards and Training Council’s 246th training class, a class of 47 officers serving multiple communities throughout Connecticut. The graduation ceremony was held at Central Connecticut State University.

 Murphy excelled in the rigorous full-time 22-week academic and physical training program. He and his classmates trained in Connecticut and Constitutional law, first aid, defensive tactics, pistol, shotgun, rifle, chemical agents, Taser, driving, patrol tactics, and many other areas that they will need in order to be successful police officers.

Murphy has a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Connecticut. He is a U.S. Coast Guard law enforcement veteran, and has attended the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. As a member of the Coast Guard, he has served as a boarding officer and law enforcement instructor. He has been trained in firearms and as an Emergency Medical Technician.

Murphy is the oldest of five children and lives in Unionville with his wife, Annette.
